History
¡@¡@To Chinese around the world, Dr Chien-Shiung Wu will always be known by the honorific title of "The Madame Curie of China." She is recognized for her physics achievements around the world, as well as being the first Chinese woman in the 20th century to become a scientific leader in her field. In honor of her contributions to science, the Chinese people, and the desire to promote the spirit of Dr. Wu's research among other Chinese scientists, four Chinese Nobel laureates initiated the establishment of the Wu Chien-Shiung Scholarship Foundation in Taiwan. The Foundation was inaugurated on September 8, 1995, by Dr. Luke C. L. Yuan, who invited four university presidents to serve on the board of trustees. The Foundation has won the praise of the scientific, scholarly, and corporate community in both mainland China and Taiwan.
